photos by Dan Sudberg

Club member Dan Sudberg wanted to present a collection of his photos in which he shows how to find interesting images in what seem to be ordinary subjects. Hope you enjoy the images shown here. (There is a Slideshow of all the photos available at the bottom of the page.)

"Making photographs for me is always a matter of being aware of my surroundings.  Whether on vacation or out and about, down at the shore or taking a walk in any of the many parks in our area, or simply shopping I always keep my eyes open for potential photo opportunities.  The photos that accompany this article demonstrate how I find an extraordinary image in ordinary surroundings."

"Wherever I am I keep my eyes open looking beyond what is in front of me, not focusing on the obvious, but deeper.  I look up, I look down and side to side."

"If I come across something and I am not sure if it will be a photograph I will like (note I said a photo I will like and not what will be good enough for a competition) I will take it.  There have been many such a photo that I have made and loved and sometimes it even fared well in competition."

"Dare to experiment. This can be as simple as when photographing something don't just shoot and go.  Move around the subject, move in closer, change your point of view.  You may find that the first photo is simply a “record shot”.  But when you explore further you find that the ordinary record shot has now transformed into something extraordinay."
