Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge Photos
The Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge includes more than 47,000 acres of southern New Jersey coastal areas. It is actively managed to protect wildlife - especially migratory birds. The refuge is spread out along the New Jersey coastline from Mantoloking to Brigantine, including locations around Barnegat Bay, Little Egg Harbor, and Great Bay.
About a year ago, two photographers from the Stonebridge Photo Club (Harvey Birnbaum and Mario Edini) made a trip to one of the Refuge's main locations on the Great Bay, near Smithville, around exit 44 on the GSP. Here are some of the photos that were taken that day. Take a look at the Slideshow of photos below. (Photos by Harvey Birnbaum, Mario Edini.) |
"A great place for photographers. Open scenery, great weather, the Ocean, and many birds of all kinds. We may not have known all of their names, but that's not really important to us while we are shooting. We can look up their names later. There were egrets, gulls, terns, enough different birds to keep a photographer happy. The Forsythe Refuge area is about an hour away. We left early to try to catch the sunrise. The trip gave me the chance to improve my wildlife shooting techniques, including birds in flight. It turned out to be a great day of photo shooting. Hope you enjoy the shots."
