The judge for the session will be TBD.
Notes for the Theme:

Abandoned structures can make interesting and beautiful photographs. Shoot from the outside, or inside.  Take different angles, capture window, doors, etc.
Below are some ideas on looking for abandoned sites:
- Google Search... just type in "abandoned places" and search.
- Google Maps/Earth...
- try this link for sites in NJ

https://urbexunderground.com/abandoned-places-in-new-jersey/

There is a requirement that at least one photo must be entered in the Theme category.
The judge for the session will be Phil Witt.
Notes for the Theme (by Walter Blitz):

We all love our pets or the pets belonging to friends and neighbors.  What they do and how they do it makes for challenging and interesting photographs. They can have lungs or gills.  If you call them pets anything goes.
Wild animals are beautiful, graceful, huge, or tiny.  They can have legs, fins, wings, live on land or water or both.  Capture wild animals doing something or exhibiting behavior that attracted your attention.

Look for a notice when the competition categories have been set up on the PhotoContestPro website. The deadline for submitting photos that you want to be reviewed will be midnight of the Friday (7/8) before the session.

+ Sept 29th Competition - Theme - "Minimalism"   ZOOM Session
The Thursday Sept 29th meeting will be a competition session. It will be conducted as a ZOOM session. The Theme category for the session is "Minimalism". Club members may submit up to six photos in their competition class (2 or 1) across a Theme category and an Open category. There is a requirement that at least one photo must be entered in the Theme category.
The judge for the session will be TBD.
Notes for the Theme:

Minimalist photography is distinguished by extreme simplicity. It emphasizes spareness and focuses solely on the smallest number of objects in the composition process. It strives for utmost plainness and focuses on one subject rather than overwhelming the viewer with lots of colors, subjects, patterns, and detail. Focus on the subject and try to present it using only what is essential in communicating its meaning. Minimalist photography shows the viewer that less is more.
Look for a notice when the competition categories have been set up on the PhotoContestPro website. The deadline for submitting photos that you want to be reviewed will be midnight of the Sunday (9/25) before the session.

+ Nov 8th "Best of Year" Competition   ZOOM Session
The Tuesday Nov 8th meeting will be our annual Best of Year competition session for the 2022 season. The judge for the session will be TBD.
Photos that had received a score of "9" or "8" in the previous year's competitions will automatically be submitted into the 2022 season ending Best of Year competition. Photos will be judged separately within each competition class: Class 2 (Advanced) and Class 1 (Intermediate/Beginner). A judge will go through the photos in each class in a number of rounds and eventually decide on a 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place and Honorable Mention winners.

+ Dec 13th Competition - Theme - "Feet & Shoes"   ZOOM Session

The Tuesday Dec 13th meeting will be a competition session. It will be conducted as a ZOOM session. The Theme category for the session is "Feet & Shoes". Club members may submit up to six photos in their competition class (2 or 1) across a Theme category and an Open category. There is a requirement that at least one photo must be entered in the Theme category.
The judge for the session will be TBD.
Notes for the Theme:

Feet and/or Shoes should be the primary focal point of the picture. While many pictures may include Feet and/or Shoes, they are usually just an adjunct to the people in the picture. A picture does not have to include both Feet and Shoes. As with any picture, there should be a story or an emotion brought out by the Feet and/or Shoes in the picture.
Look for a notice when the competition categories have been set up on the PhotoContestPro website. The deadline for submitting photos that you want to be reviewed will be midnight of the Friday (12/9) before the session.

Competition Info:
We encourage all club members to participate in club competitions as often as possible. Their main goal is to help you improve as a photograher in a fun environment.
The best way to improve as a photographer is by showing your work and receiving feedback. And a great way to do this is through the competitions set up by the club. Listen to the comments made by the judge about your photos, and the photos of other club members. Use the comments to improve your work and see how you do in the next competition. Remember, it is all anonymous (unless your photo receives an award).

+ Note on Competition Submission Rules
Since we have gone back to running both Theme and Open categories during the same competition session, we are re-establishing an old rule. In short, when Theme and Open categories are established in the same competition session, you must submit at least one photo in a Theme category or all your submissions will be disqualified. Check the procedures on the Procedures, Forms, Links page.
(The reason for the rule is to get club members to think about the assigned themes, experiment with new techniques, and get out there and take new photos.)

+ Review of Our Competition Re-Submission Rules
The following are the club's re-submission rules (you can see the full competition procedures on the Procedures,Forms,Links page:
- Any photo that has been DQ'd may be re-submitted without any restrictions.
- Any photo receiving a score of "7" or lower may be re-submitted in any future category, once.

- Any Color photo that has been scored in a competition may be re-submitted as a Monochrome (B&W) photo in any future competition, once, and vice versa.

+ Note on Competition Awards Criteria
The club rules in regards to awarding photos at club competitions:
- A 1st place award will be given in every competition category.
- A 2nd and 3rd place will be awarded only if there are any photos left that received a score of “9” or “8”. (If the category has less than 10 photos, then only a 2nd place will be awarded. If the category has less than 7 photos, then only a 1st place will be awarded.)
- All remaining photos that received a score of “9” will receive an Honorable Mention award.

Check the procedures on the Procedures, Forms, Links page.

“When you photograph people in color, you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in Black and white, you photograph their souls!”                           - Ted Grant
Picture
Some people say that black & white photos have more character, more substance than color photos. Whether you accept that or not, it is an area of photography that should be explored by all serious photographers. In future competitions, it is hoped that you consider entering one or more photos in the Monochrome (B&W) categories. If you need help in working in black & white, ask one of the club officers for assistance.

Note From The President
Remember, if you have a picture in a competition and the judge suggests some changes to make it better, other Club members are available to help you make those changes. Some of the more experienced members of the Club will be available to assist any member with Photoshop and adjustments to any of your pictures either before or after a competition. Please ask one of the club officers for more information.
